According to a blog the RED and GREEN disks distributed by Western Digital are exactly the same from an hardware prospective. The difference seems to be to just the disk parking time (in order to minimize the power consumption) and the warranty.

Even if the disks are different from an hardware point of view change the disk parking time is a really fair point and should be done for any drive running 24/7 with server tasks.
